Great Scots Celebrate Crossing Pacific
When I first took my youngest son to the USA I took him to a local eatery to acclimatise him to America. It was Seven Brothers an American institution and if you could have seen the look on his face when they brought the enormous meal it would startle you. The portions were generous beyond belief. But this week it has been three brothers in the news. They are the MacLeans from Edinburgh and they have just done an amazing feat. They have rowed across the Pacific Ocean without any support vessel and all for charity.
They have completed this massive achievement in 140 days at sea including one of the siblings being swept overboard in a massive storm, luckily he was anchored onto the boat. They journeyed 1400 miles in the open craft to raise money for clean water projects in Madagascar to which end they have garnered £700,000 so far in donations. Among their essential supplies they had an accordion and a set of bagpipes and nearly a tonne of food, including an inordinate amount of porridge oats. Naturally as they got their land legs back after weeks at sea all they really wanted was a pizza. And who could blame them. Well done three brothers.
