Nouveau Single Saucer Champagne Coupe Glass

The exquisite Nouveau Crystal Coupe glasses are a testament to the art of British glass making, offering a blend of historical elegance and luxurious craftsmanship. Crafted from brilliant, fine crystal, these glasses feature the classic shallow saucer bowl set atop a delicate, balanced stem. This silhouette is instantly evocative of the early 20th century. The unique detailing lies in the intricate, hand-cut Art Nouveau-inspired intaglio matte design. Unlike traditional deep cuts, the intaglio technique involves subtle, delicate etching on the exterior of the bowl, resulting in a soft, frosted effect. This intricate pattern adds a touch of sophistication and romance that is truly unique in crystalware.

These coupes are perfect for enjoying a wide range of sophisticated drinks. While their classic, wide shape is historically associated with Champagne and sparkling wine, they are superb for serving complex sparkling cocktails or elegant desserts. The wide bowl encourages the aromas of mixed ingredients to fully open up, making them the ideal vessel for classics like the Sidecar, Aviation, or any fizzy punch. These glasses are a true expression of luxury and timeless style, making every sip feel like a grand ball in high society.

Supplied in a card gift box with gold foil blocking.

HISTORY OF THE COUPE GLASS
The Retro Coupe Glass is an elegant stemmed saucer champagne also suitable for cocktails. The flute for a while has become the preferred glass for sparkling wines, but this wasn't always the case. Before the flute, the coupe was the glass for Champagne. This petite bowl or saucer-shaped glass has a rather raunchy origin! Legend has it that the coupe glass was moulded from Marie Antoinette's left breast, and that she wanted her court to toast her health by drinking from glasses shaped like her bosom. However, the glass was actually born long before the reign of the queen, in 1663 in England. It was one of the first, if not the first, glasses invented specifically for drinking Champagne.
