Are You Dreaming of a White Christmas?

Bing Crosby Has a Lot to Answer for

With the forecasters rolling up their sleeves and delivering doom laden announcements about snow in the coming weeks and the bookies lowering the odds on a white Christmas we can forget about global warming for a few seconds and contemplate the snow drifts, burst pipes and freezing conditions that make life in the northern hemisphere fun in the winter.

The Trudge in the Sludge

If you’ve ever wondered why we have to trudge down to the shops, whether on shank’s pony or in the car or on a late, late bus then you’ll appreciate how easy we have made it this year here at JP. This week we are told temperatures will drop ten degrees Celsius that's eighteen degrees in the old money of Fahrenheit and that’s enough to freeze brass monkeys all round Scotland. (Did you know what a brass monkey is by the way? It’s a brass triangle that they used to stack cannon balls on and low temperatures saw the balls contract and roll off.)

Gloom and Doom, NO!

Oh and by the way if the cold wasn’t enough we’ll have to cope with seventy mile an hour gales. Forecasters are also warning of rough sea crossings. Oh deep joy. Well with a few clicks of your trusty mouse you can avoid the rough sea crossing, the queue for the bus to town and the wind licking around your ankles. We have Christmas sorted, and boxed up too.
