Dogs Woof to Give Blood
Dogs Woof to Give Blood
K9 Rescue Helped by Blood Transfusion Service
Man’s best friend we call him, or her, and we all know that once you have bonded with your dog that’s it. It’s a love that goes beyond the ordinary. Whether your dog is pure mutt or splendid pedigree the feelings are the same. So imagine Beecraig’s Lesley Duncan’s anxiety when she found her dog was minutes from death through blood loss. The dog in question was Finn an 11 year old lurcher - that’s cross breed of greyhound descent , well mongrel if you are feeling unkind. He had a spleen rupture and he was near death. Blood type doesn’t matter with dogs – they all have the same stuff.
Dogs not Lothian to Donate
Luckily Finn had a sister who was able to donate some canine blood and the brave dog has battled back to something approaching fitness, even though he has now been diagnosed with a terminal condition. But the Linlithgow vet who saved Finn’s life wouldn’t like to take chances with other animal lives and has decided to help set up a blood transfusion bank for other dogs in trouble.
A Helping Paw
There is an existing small scale service in Edinburgh as a Vet school recently held a donation clinic for dogs to give blood to the animal charity Pet Blood Bank UK. But dogs in need of urgent treatment need local supplies of blood so Stuart Morrow, Finn’s vet in Linlithgow, has decided to mimic the Edinburgh service locally to cut down on waits for urgent blood needs.
Now we here are probably a little bit crackers about dogs and animals in general and we love soft, warm animal stories, even those with a sting in the tail like Finn’s. And to show that we have a new figure Bailey the puppy who complements the existing Belle and Bertie Puppies from Royal Crown Derby . Ah!

And for the dog lovers who also love Border Fine Arts there is the delightful Joys of Motherhood a limited edition of a collie with her pups which has a whacking fifty five quid off. Well that takes the dog biscuit!
