Scottish Water Power Generates Savings
When the wind blows we now have a great deal of relatively cheap energy and as seaside dwellers we are seeing ideas floated for our local area for wind generation across our horizon, but what happens when the wind doesn’t blow as it didn’t most of last summer and when those windmills are just very expensive skyline ornaments? Well the people in Scotland have the answer it’s a hydro scheme designed to store saved energy and generate hydro-electricity, like my favourite people the Norwegians!
The giant hydro scheme would double the UK's ability to store energy over long periods with a likely hundred million pound investment with a new high dam at Coire Glas in the Highlands. The two reservoirs would comprise Britain's biggest hydroelectric project for 40 years. The idea is if you dam a loch and build up two reservoirs you can use the water to drive turbines and generate 1.5 GWs. So when the wind doesn’t blow the water is released generate electricity by up spinning the turbines at Loch Lochy. And all of this will be a low carbon solution as they say these days and benefit all without damaging the climate. The scheme will reduce the UK's reliance on imported gas, the biggest driver of prices for the industry and the consumer and one of the causes of the cost of living prices.
And we here at James Pirie want to do our little bit for the cost of living and we have a number of fine goods at very fine prices.
