A Wordle in Your Ear
What do you do first thing in the morning? Are you like the members of our household and do Wordle yet again to keep your winning run on the go? Yes we are hooked. Rather less so than in the beginning, but still firmly under the thumb of those pesky setters in the offices of the New York Times. At this very moment I am under the darkened skies of a marital fatwa - if I interrupt the missus while she completes today’s puzzle. I expect no mercy if I make her fail at the last hurdle because I make an intervention which makes her fall at the last clue and make her fail for the third time in three hundred attempts. But her stats are pretty good, and I’ve just heard an exclamation of joy as she has got today’s clue in two STAID. So I expect bright skies and sunshine in the marital home today. That makes 7 times she’s done it in two: Which is getting too close to my record of 9.
Wordle is a modern trend and it’s bound to go away when some fashion or other takes its place, but here at James Pirie we don’t forget our traditional values of service and great prices, after all we’ve been around since 1890. So looking at the web pages just now you’ll see we also tend to mark those state occasions like the passing of the late Queen and the coronation of the new monarch. Despite the many years since 1890 it’s only the fifth such coronation since our founder opened his shop. As you’ll know Edward VIII didn’t reign long enough to get a crowning!
