Scotland’s Einstein!
Scotland’s Einstein!
James Clerk Maxwell
I am really excited to watch the BBC programme on J C M as he was such a remarkable Scot. Without him we might not have colour photography, X Rays or have a proper understanding of the interlinked nature of magnetism and electricity with the ability to send electromagnetic waves and make radio.
Running Rings around Saturn
He also explained the rings of the giant planet Saturn and helped set up the world famous Cavendish Laboratory , but died young at 48 on November 5 in 1879 while at the family home in Scotland without seeing the great benefits of his discoveries.
It’s a Murracle
Today the world’s largest radio telescope bears his name and does fantastic work in exploring the origins of the universe. Also today, thought I would shoehorn in the win by Andy Murray which was another Murracle in the annals of tennis as Raonic seemed to have the beating of our man down under. So this weekend we will see two Scots in two finals as the brothers make the two mens finals in singles and doubles.
New Daffodils
Now talking singles and doubles, you’ll see how I shoehorned that in too on a web site that sells fine glassware to drink fine wines and spirits out of, but of course we don’t only do glasses and stuff we do a new and lovely range called Daffodils. Just looking at the range I can feel spring on its way, along with 100 mile an hour winds in the Islands mind you.
So as I sit on the sofa watching the Murracles at workand my show on James Clerk Maxwell I will thing on higher things also:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
New, Special and on Special
Thank you Wordsworth and thank you James Pirie for choosing this delightful range of British hand cut intaglio glass. My favourite the flared glass vase, but all of them are on offer at half price. Brilliant stuff.
Speaking of which the aforementioned sofa calls: So fingers crossed for a Murray double!
