Oh No, It’s the Internet at the Speed of Light

Scots Invention Means Internet Goes 100 x Faster, World Dismayed

If you are taking to the World Wide Web slowly, like the rest of us the news that Internet could soon be getting one hundred times faster will not necessarily be putting a spring in your step, unless you are addicted to Candy Crush or playing Call of Duty on line.  This new wheeze is courtesy of a man called Harald Haas from Edinburgh University who invented it way back in 2011. Can we remember that far back without our PDA, which is either a Personal Digital Assistant or a Pretty Darn Awkward depending on your point of view, who knows?

Broadband, Narrow Band or Elastic Band

Now speeds of one gigabyte per second sound like science fiction, especially if you live in the country and are trying to get your broadband provider to give you something like a decent service and the kids at number 23 are so busy downloading every movie in the Disney Catalogue there is no spare capacity on the broadband for you to browse the tasteful articles on James Pirie. (You’ll of course remember the old joke, what is the difference between Fred Astaire and Walt Disney, well Fred dances and Walt disney! )Anyway back to speed of light broadband, which uses Li-Fi technology

Flickering Light Sends Data

A bunch of Estonians, they are the ones who gave us SKYPE have designed lighting system where the data communication is done through flickering light. It works they say by an LED going off and on and on and off at speeds invisible to the naked eye allowing data to be sent in binary code. It also means that no one, unless they are in the room with you can hack your wifi. I didn’t even know people could hack my wifi! Well so much for my secret orders of Dundee cake that I haven’t told the wife about.

The Future Accordion to Jimmy Shand

If the whole of the future of shopping seems to be a fraught experience and you want something a bit quieter and more at a pace you feel comfortable with then you can lie down in a darkened room and listen to old Jimmy Shand records, although the accordion isn’t everyone’s ideal instrument, or you could just go at your own pace on our lovely website and get something truly old fashioned, which is personal service and good value. It won’t give you a digital thrill via a download, or put you in contact with fellow players living in Dushanbe in Tajikistan, but it will get good stuff to your loved ones by Christmas.

Try These Beauties

You could try our lovely Highlands inspired Spode crockery. Spode was founded in 1767 and its latest high speed development was in 1816 when the developed transfer printing.  Now that’s not Li-Fi ! It comes with a cracking seasonal offer.

Or a paperweight that symbol of an age when people wrote to each other much more.  Again with a seasonal price reduction. This limited edition is CAITHNESS GLASS-CELTIC REFLECTION.

Or a whisky tasting glass for the golfer in your life, engraved with a man driving off the tee. It’s already a great price.
