Long Distance Chanter

Scotland has recaptured the world record for bagpipe playing after a  police controller from  Aberdeen didn’t run out of puff when piping for over 24  straight hours.

Rikki Evans who is only 29 played a medley of 1200 tunes to take the record, taking only one break for 5 minutes every hour

His challenge started in Glasgow on a Wednesday morning in Glasgow and finished on Thursday shortly after lunch time.

Bag a Record

Rikki Evans, 29, was relieved to catch his breath after he played a whopping 1,200 tunes on the woodwind instrument. He is believed to have played the bagpipes for the longest time of any human ever!

Rikki knows about 300 songs and repeated them until his puff was gone. In the process shattering the world record and raising many thousands for charity. Well done Rikki! A telly recording of the event will be handed over to Guinness, for his anointment as World Record Holder.

Now we are proud of the tradition of the Lone Piper, those last few notes of the lament over Edinburgh Castle, the dropping of twilight and the Saltire hanging proudly.

Drone on About a Bargain

If you want a Lone Piper of your own the great folks at Caithness Glass have a lovely paperweight with this title on special offer and it has fifty pounds off in celebration of the achievement.

Or if the piping has made you thirsty then try a pint of heavy in the Scottish Piper Pewter in finest non lead pewter which will not tarnish and which will be a fine way to wet your whistle or your reed, but don’t let me drone on about that.  So bag one now as they have over six pounds off and are yours for less than twenty five quid.
