The Spectre of Vodka Raised by New Bond Movie
The Spectre of Vodka Raised by New Bond Movie
Scotch on the Rocks Shock
Apologies for not commenting on the New James Bond film SPECTRE but I was on my honeymoon in France. Yes even at my age! And the big news from the movie if not the box office is that Bond’s flirtation with Scotch whisky is over for the moment. He is now getting SMERSHED on Vodka. Which given the film’s tepid reception in the USA is a bit of a relief. The booze of the moment is clear grain alcohol, which is a return to the days of Dr No when drinks giant Smirnoff bought their way into the film world.
Shaken and not Stirred or Slurred
Fleming originally gave Bond a bit of a thirst and he swilled his way through whisky and gin cocktails by the score and those very much of his age, so when the Vodka Martini shaken and not stirred was introduced it was very definitely a filmic creation. In the last Bond outing Skyfall the drink of choice was a very fine Scotch indeed, but Macallan is definitely passé for the cheque receiving Bond producers. Instead we are back with vodka and a high brow niche brand called Belvedere, which is made in Poland, but owned by the French luxury group LVMH who own a whole universe of bling brands.
