Speed Bonny Dinosaur over the Sea to Skye
Footprints Found by Dino Hunters
Those clever fellows who study dinosaurs, the palaeontologists, have discovered the tracks of huge dinosaurs that once roamed the coasts of pre-historic Scotland. There was nothing wee about the sauropods that lived 170 million years ago on Skye. These dinosaurs were early relatives of the famous species like diplodocus brontosaurus. The monsters weighed in at something like 10 tonnes and were up to 20 metres long.
Old Fossils Congregated on the Seashore
The finding were made by scientists from the University of Edinburgh who identified the 70 cm across fossilised footprints in layers of rock that would, millions of years ago, have been at the bottom of a shallow, salt water lagoon. It would also have been warm enough for the cold blooded creatures to thrive.
