The Forth Bridge Closure - a Near Disaster?
The Forth Bridge Closure - a Near Disaster?
Closed until the New Year
Now the Forth Bridge is closed until the New Year and thousands are facing a long journey cross country to get across this impressive stretch of water. The bridge’s website is full of zero information, but the minister responsible says safety is paramount. Well you’ve only to remember the lines of the deliciously named Sir William Topaz McGonagall:
So the train mov’d slowly along the Bridge of Tay,
Until it was about midway,
Then the central girders with a crash gave way,
And down went the train and passengers into the Tay!
The Storm Fiend did loudly bray,
Because ninety lives had been taken away,
On the last Sabbath day of 1879,
Which will be remember’d for a very long time.
Stay at Home Sense
