Leonardo DiCaprio Gets Wild About Scotland

Thinking about the Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio brings to mind him holding the arms of Kate Windswept in Titanic and non disclosure agreements, NDAs, for his girlfriend who all seem to be of a pretty young age for the soon to be 50 actor. But when it comes to nature the Hollywood star of Killers of the Flower Moon is very much in favour of the wild side as we saw in The Wolf of Wall Street.  And now he’d very much like to see real wolves popping around the Highlands as they did before farmers and landowners decided they were part of the Catch Me If You Can  scene and hunted  them to extinction. It seems official records show  that the last Scottish wolf was killed in Killiecrankie by Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel  way back in 1680. Although those walking past building sites might have heard their distinctive cry, or whistle.

Leonardo DiCaprio was highly visible when Scotland hosted Cop26  in Glasgow and he was out and about in Maryhill, charming the locals and leading the way forward on environmental change in our warming world. Let’s just hope he didn’t  just swoop in on a private jet like so many others, including the PM of the UK at the time! Now Leonardo has joined Scottish environmentalists in urging ministers to declare the country a rewilding nation, no jokes about the Old Firm derby please. It seems there is a Rewilding Alliance that hopes to see those species forced out by human activities once more swooping across the glens , scurrying  across the heather or howling at the moon in the Cairngorms.

But don’t worry the wolf won’t  be at your door in the near future while James Pirie is here to offer you tip top merchandise that won’t break the bank.  And don’t fret that even if Once Upon a Time..
