The Great Scottish Pie War -

Local Baker and Footba Club Go to War over Pie Name

Kilmarnock football club is struggling off and on the field and is now in dispute with their long term sponsor and supplier of match day pies – the momentous entity that is a Killie pie.

For 13 years the club and baker have been harmonious about the Rugby Park, my mouth is watering writing about it, pie. But the local bakery has applied to trademark the pie and its all got a bit nasty with high powered lawyers writing crusty letters to one and all.

Pie Served

The multi award winning ‘Killie Pie’ is front centre of the battle, who has the naming rights for not the stadium, but the pie. The Bakers feel that they make it and, have done so since 2003 and therefore they own it and the club believe that it falls among the merchandising rights that they got when they registered “Killie” for merchandise before the turn of the millennium.  The pies are undoubtedly delicious and the cash strapped club wish a share of the huge success that they have become. The club has therefore instructed its trademark attorneys, Marks & Clerk, to oppose the baker’s trademark application.

Great Trade Marks We Have

Now we have no opinion on the spat between the two organisations, other than to testify as to the deliciousness of pies in general, but we do have an opinion on trademarks generally, because we carry some of the world’s finest trademarks for porcelain, glassware and gifts.

We have Royal Crown Derby which was established some time before 1750.
