Father’s Day -
Should you Ignore It? Or Are You a Grateful Child?
There is no rhyme nor reason to family feelings and the greatest tragedy in the English language is about children who have had enough of their father and wouldn’t mind him spending more time down in the proverbial garden shed. That of course is the play King Lear which tells us that there is definitely no fool like an old fool, why he even has a ‘fool’ called Tom to prove it.
Modern Life is Not Always Goodish
Now I am not suggesting that current kids are like Goneril and Regan who will seize everything and murder their sibling, but the cut and thrust of family life can sometimes build walls when we don’t mean to erect them and make it difficult to talk. I remember growing up I had a rift between me and my father and when I tried to heal it, quite a few years later the scars had healed badly and we couldn’t bury the hatchet and it was very painful.
Express Positive Emotion
With more and more families living in second and even third relationships with fathers separated by time and distance and behaviour, well there comes a time to draw a line under it and just be , as Shakespeare would say more “natural,” which is to say loving, but in a straightforward way. Not just with those darn emojis you get on the mobile phone. :-) Grrr
Forget That Emoji Say It Meaningfully
And if you have never had a moment of bad with your father, why it’s high time to tell him about it. Now I know that Father’s Day is a pesky American invention, and seen by some as just a way to magic a bit of change out of your pocket, but really if you haven’t told your father, or the father of your children how much you care, forgive or love them recently; well then now is as good a time as any. And because it’s Father’s Day it won’t seem unduly weird. Try our range of gift ideas, before father gets banished to the garden shed.
