How Not to Be Barking Mad –
Is Work a Little Ruff?
I only really knew one person who continuously brought their dog to work, but I have to say he was very chilled out and that may have been the canine influence of man’s best friend. He had a grand name too, his surname was Beer: But is seem that he was completely right and that dogs calm the troubled breast. It has been claimed that workers who are allowed to bring dogs into the office are happier and more productive according to an Edinburgh Napier University study. Many multinational companies and one famous Aberdeenshire-based beer brewery have welcomed pets into the workplace. It seems that dogs in the workplace increases the interactions between people which can result in lower levels of stress for employees and higher levels of creativity because people are talking to each other more. It must be also nice to have a dog to pet. The Aberdeenshire brewery also gives owners of new rescue dogs or puppies paid time off to adjust to the requirements of dog ownership.
Where’s My Support Alligator?
But I suppose there is a downside to all that is if someone has a hideous pooch to bring to work which growls and barks at all and sundry, mind you I’ve had a few bosses like that over the years I can tell you. So I expect the workplace which allows dogs will have to trial it first and set down a few sensible rules, including no cats in the workplace. But not withstanding those caveats I’d say I’d like to see more dogs in non restaurant workplaces. However, it may mean that we reach the lunacy of support animals on airplanes. Did you hear about the woman who brought an emotional support horse onto a flight? Well, Flirty a miniature horse was allowed on a flight to help her owner battle mental ill health. Goodness knows what the person in the seat next to the horse thought. Although one of the strangest applications was for a support male peacock to be taken on an internal US flight. He was refused the flight because he was 7ft long and presumably because can fly by himself. Last year America's United Airlines said requests for "support pets" had risen by 75% to 76,000 in a year. Remind me not to fly in rattlesnake season!
