Nosey Parkers?-
Scotland Set for Parking Levy
Do you have a parking spot at work provided for you by your employer? Well it looks like someone is going to have to pay for it. Luckily it probably won’t be you in the short run as the levy will be applied to your employer. If like many of us you are car dependent with train services not accessible and local bus services a standing joke then this will only add to the strain of running your own transport. It seems that there is now a firm plan to give local councils the power to charge a levy on workplace parking. The proposal is part of a series of changes to transport in Scotland that are now certain to make it into law. The government's transport bill will also shake up bus services, introduce low emission zones in cities and ban parking on pavements. All of which I suppose are certain to be part of a future when we have protesters glueing themselves onto airplanes south of the border.
Left My Chevy on the Levy
I have talked about the levy before and the new law would give all Scottish councils the power to impose the levy, but only Glasgow and Edinburgh have said they plan to do so at the moment. It will be modelled on a scheme in Nottingham, the only one in the UK, where employers offering more than 10 spaces are charged £415 a year for every single space. They then decide if they pass this cost on to staff. In Nottingham 80% of employers do claw back at least part of the levy from their employees. Some deduct a per centage of the fee according to the salary of the worker. At the moment NHS hospitals and other sites are except from such a levy and that is to be welcomed, what with the difficulty of attracting staff in the first place. They say that cash raised from the levy would be reinvested in improving transport.

Here at James Pirie we like to be a haven away from the trials and tribulations of the modern world, a bastion of old fashioned values expressed in a very 21st century way. And in this century there has been an absolute craze for that once staid drink the gin and tonic. Well gin is very much the drink of the hour and we are proud to offer the Royal Scot Crystal - Skye - 2 Gin and Tonic (G&T) Copa Glasses in a nifty presentation box. The Skye Gin and Tonic Copa Glass is perfect for drinking gin and tonics and gin based cocktails, grand I say and it’s half price too. What better way to relax.
