Giz a Chip- On the Other Hand Perhaps Not
Giz a Chip-
On the Other Hand Perhaps Not
We had family visiting this weekend and so consumed a deal more calories than we might have otherwise done. Without visitors we would never be worrying about black pudding or white pudding how many sausages can I eat for breakfast and still function? Well the answer by the way is three and did you know that black pudding is now considered a ‘super food?’ They’ll be saying fried bread is slimming next. But what they are saying without a doubt is that Glasgow’s chip portions are gigantic and growing. It seems that the average chip portion in the nation’s second city is 80 per cent larger than official recommendation. Out and about they went measuring in Glasgow and the average serving is 380g of chips against the recommended 210g and one monster plateful was 755g. Which by my reckoning is all anyone should eat of everything in a day because it weighs in a 2,356 calories! By Jings!
Fish and Chips Fine Tradition
All of this matters of course because chips are one of the top five foods and drinks we consume outside the home, especially when the wife goes shopping in town. And the reason why we might be concerned is that portion sizes have grown and are still growing and there are 30,000 out-of-home food places in the nation offering carry out. And of course this year the best fish and chip shop in Scotland plaices are near St Andrews. The National Fish and Chip Awards gave their award to a plaice in St Andrews, jokes intended, in 2018 and this year it is still in Fife at Thornton near Kircaldy. It is a fine tradition dating back to the middle of the 19th century and great as long as we don’t abuse it.
Not Made from Girders
Now talking about fine traditions from the 19th century will no doubt set you thinking about James Pirie established when Queen Victoria was on the throne and judging by her later figure no stranger to a fish supper. Well we are no strangers to fine glassware at great prices. Take the Royal Scot Crystal Flower of Scotland Large Tumbler which is perfect for drinking a refreshing Gin and Tonic/other spirits with mixers, a large whisky with water and/or ice or just as a cut crystal water tumbler. You can even drink Irn Bru in it! But they are not made from girders. And I have just found out two things: Irn Bru is very popular in Russia and the two set Royal Scot Crystal Flower of Scotland Large Tumblers are a five star customer recommendation.
