Storm Ali –

Floats Like a Butterfly Stings Like a Bee?

Well the autumn is almost upon us and the first storm of the season called Ali is heading towards us so I have started to batten down the hatches for the winter, putting away garden furniture and setting it all away. The chairs and table had already been blown around the garden and that is before Storm Ali brings its 80 mph winds and heavy rain to the nation and heavy waves to us on the coast. The weather warning is amber with a danger to life from flying debris and the usual travel chaos. These explanations for coded colours are usually hidden in a drop down box on the Met Office site, so I’ll explain them

  • Amber: Be prepared for disruption. There is an increased likelihood of bad weather affecting you, which could potentially disrupt your plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and the potential risk to life and property.
  • Red: Extreme weather is expected. Red means you should take action now to keep yourself and others safe from the impact of the weather. Widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely. You must avoid dangerous areas and follow the advice of the emergency services and local authorities.

Best thing is always top check Traffic Scotland before starting any journey in extreme weather conditions. Let’s hope that it is nowhere near as bad as March’s “The Beast from the East” which with Storm Emma caused so must trouble for folks earlier this year.
