Tattoo Donates a Cool Million –
Charities Benefits from 2018 Edinburgh Tattoo
Now I don’t know why money has a temperature, but it seems to me that it has and a million is always cool. And the phrase ‘cool million’ dates back to something like 1728 when its refrigerating qualities would have been less evident. The use of the word ‘hot’ to denote stolen is much more recent and comes from the 1920s. But the great and the good at the the 2018 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo organiser have decided to give a cool million to charity, bring up its charitable contributions to some £11 million since the Tattoo was founded in 1950. Would that be a cool £11 million, or a super cool one? Either way with the low temperature physics of money it will have been terribly important to the charities receiving it. And there are 13 charities benefitting this year. Many of the charities benefitting are for veterans and it is a proud sum for proud people.
The Sky Was the Limit
The theme this year was the Sky Is The Limit and some 1,200 international performers took part in this visual and emotional spectacular and it was narrated by old favourite Bill Paterson there was the Combined Bands of The Royal Cavalry of The Sultanate of Oman. Silent precision drill and weapon skills from the United States Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team and in their centenary year the RAF College Band took centre stage as this year’s ‘home service’ at the Tattoo.I’ve written about top secret drummers before but I shouldn’t forget the beloved Shetland Fiddlers, Hjaltibinhoga who brought the sights and sounds of their island home with a music echoing the sounds of the seabirds of Shetland. It would bring a tear to your eye.
Jewels of Gifts
Well the sky is the limit for gift ideas at James Pirie too and you’ll be pleased to note that we take no prisoners on price and many of our offerings are at a substantially lower price. So while we pack to the skirl of the pipes, well I do anyway as regular readers will have noted I am a bit of a fan of the piping, we look forward to your custom year after year. Perhaps you would like to look at a five star gift it’s called Scottish Jewel of the Glen and it is hand made in Scotland by our good friends at Caithness Glass. And there’s a £14 reduction. With the saving you could by a little lightbox to show off this charmer and still have a tenner in your pocket.
