Is Your Head in a Spin?
We're not going out not staying in, just running around with my head in a spin
But there is no need to scream and shout because we're not going out
There is a long running TV sitcom with Lee Mack on the BBC called Not Going Out and if you’ve looked at the price of fuel for the car recently you’ll be joining him staying in. As over the past six months the cost of filling up a typical 55-litre family car that runs on petrol or diesel has risen by around £6. So if you travel to work by car and many of us do, what with the failings of cash strapped bus companies or overcrowded trains, the car seems the best option. But diesel car owners have been hit by a 13th successive week of rising fuel costs. Those at the pump prices have increased each week since July 2. That is the longest consecutive streak of rises in more than two years. Now the average cost of diesel in the UK now stands at £1.35 per litre and £1.31 for petrol. It wasn’t so long ago that it was under a quid in 2106.
No Sign of Relief
Motoring organisations have said that there is no sign of price rises slowing as Brent crude is now trading at around 85 US dollars a barrel, the highest level since the end of October 2014 and we are warned that pump prices are likely to rise over the next two weeks as it takes time for the full impact of oil and wholesale price changes to have an impact on your local petrol station. Supermarkets are using cheaper petrol to lure you through their doors, but it hasn’t helped keep the cost of living down a lot.
