Knees Bend Arms Stretch-

Exercising and Sir Andy

Regular readers of this blog will know that I am a huge fan of Sir Andy Murray the tartan warrior of the tennis court.  I even travelled to the south east to see him in action at Eastbourne this year and have booked again in case he is there next year. What I didn’t know is that Andy is an ambassador for the NHS.Is the no end to reasons to admire the man? Well that was a rhetorical question as I suspect there isn’t. He’s now promoting the Daily Mile a very worthwhile project. Did you know that the average person in the UK only walks for 8 minutes a day all in all? That is every bit of exercise all added together. That is a shocker.

Scottish Initiative Leads the World

I’m off tomorrow to play tennis for a week so I hope I have done more exercise than that to help me through the ordeal, 4 hours a day jings I’ll need an iron lung.  But back to Sir Andy and the Daily Mile an initiative that was started at a school in Stirling six years ago by a head teacher who was worried about levels of childhood obesity. Now more than a 1,000,000 children take part in the scheme at 5,000 schools in 44 countries. That’s a success I’d say. Andy has starred in the first of four short films which aim to get more schools in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to sign-up. Andy was immensely moved by working with the young kids and the positive effects it has on them. You don’t have to run, you can just walk for the 15 minutes a day it recommends and health benefits will abound. And a 15-minute run, jog or walk each day is simple, free and fun to do."
