Rain Rain Come Again
Waterer’s Elbow and Other Strange Complaints
I was just talking to a friend in Sweden about her garden and it seems it is a parched wasteland with only 25 millimetres of water having fallen in the last two and a half months. Around her in nearby Oskarshamn they have forest fires and this in the land of lakes. But here I can sympathise with not a great deal of rain having fallen on our garden in the recent month. Indeed I have watering can elbow from lifting the can so often to walk around the garden and keep those plants we spent so much on this spring going. It’s difficult enough to find plants suitable for what they call a marine environment, it’s a darn sight harder when nature doesn’t co-operate in keeping them alive. And now the lack of rain seems apparent in the Highlands too.
Thirsty Work
As at Ben Bhraggie near Golspie six fire engines and fifty fire fighters tackled a blaze which has seen locals forced to stay at home and keep all doors and windows shut tight. In addition to the six engines ix fire engines helicopter from Inverness was been dispatched to water bomb the woodland. By jings I didn’t expect to see such things in Scotland. It comes just days after the moorland blaze on Saddleworth Moor, which is next to Manchester the rain capital of the English, has been raging since June 24th with the army called in to contain it. It is a wierd state of affairs and evidently we are to blame for the worst summer in Iceland since 1914 because the jet stream has moved and taken away their summer. It rained every single day in May in Iceland and it made for a very uncomfortable BBQ season.
