Sir Billy’s Art- Glasgow Stages Exhibition
Sir Billy’s Art-
Glasgow Stages Exhibition
Regular readers of this blog will know of my admiration for the Big Yin, Sir Billy Conolly one of Glasgow’s finest. Not only is he fighting the good fight against that terrible disease Parkinson’s he has revealed a great new talent, fine art. Billy says that art is his life now and he’s had an exhibition of his work at Castle Fine Art on Queen Street. It was immensely well received by those in the critical know. The collection t is called Born on a Rainy Day and it comprises of 25 sketches.
An Idyllic Life
Sir Billy who has regularly been voted the greatest stand-up comic in the UK is remarkably resilient, even at the age of 76. Why in 2013, the comedian revealed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and prostate cancer all on the same day. What a brutal time! He has since been given the all-clear for cancer. But now Sir Billy says he leads and idyllic life getting up in the morning, feeding his fish and then catching them in afternoon, followed by a time with his sketch books and art. Sir Billy says he doesn’t miss his life ‘on the road,’ travelling endlessly round the world. He is, for example incredibly popular in Australia, but that touring life lies in the past. Instead he has his art and his first exhibition was unveiled in 2012, with his art described as surrealist and similar to cave paintings. You’d have to live in a cave to know nothing of the Big Yin.
Some Idyllic Ideas
Well here at James Pirie we don’t have any exhibitions on the go, except out permanent show of fine giftware. Some of which we could rightly say are works of art. Now I know you’ll expect me to direct you to the Fine Art sculptured bronzes that are part of our offering, the lovely Richard Cooper Bronzes, but no. Instead I’ll direct you to a bit of everyday pleasure the Wrendale Collection which brings, humour and quirkiness into the drinking of tea and coffee. They have just the right amount of cuteness and whimsy and everyone will feel just that little bit better for having a cuppa from Wrendale. They are five star rated too. Can’t go wrong.
