Tartan Scrooges?-

Tram Strike after Overwhelming Ballot

On the day I found out about medieval Scots possibly being forced to eat cats I also found out that there is to be a strike on Edinburgh’s troubled tramways. Oh dearie me! It seems that cats may have formed part of the diet of hungry medieval Scots, according to archaeologists who have discovered feline bones with the distinctive marks of a butcher’s knife in diggings before renovations at the Perth Theatre. Now it is well known that medieval folk used cat pelts to line gloves, collars and clothing generally, but it is maybe grim news that they might have been forced by hard times to eat them too.  On historic sites such as the Perth Theatre  it is mandatory that the archaeologists get to rummage around before the building starts in case part of Scotland’s wonderful heritage is disturbed or destroyed forever.  But it is a shock to learn how hard life might have been north of the border.

A Cat’s Chance

And of course with a tram strike, no matter how justified, life will get harder for the citizens of the capital.  The union says it does not want to play Scrooge by interrupting Christmas travel for Edinburgh’s folks, but ah well they’ll have to do it anyway. It may be called off if they can work it all out, but I suppose that is a cat’s chance. What with all the worries of Christmas shopping it is just one more difficulty everyone will just get on with. It’ll give us all a good chance to moan anyways.
