Aged Whisky Set to Break Records –
60 Years in the Cask
Do you have any old whisky hanging round at the back of the drinks cabinet or lurking in the larder? Well you would do well to wish it were so. As a bottle of the most expensive 60 year old whisky made the 1920s in the world is to go under the hammer at auction in Edinburgh. The Macallan Valerio Adami 1926 is a 60-year-old and will be put up for sale at in 3 October. It is valued at the best part of thre quarters of a million pounds.he whisky was in a vat for 60 years from 1926 before being bottled in 1986. It was a limited edition of 24 with labels by famous artists Peter Blake and Valerio Adami. The tantalus that carrues the magical bottle was bought by from the Macallan distillery in 1994. Another bottle of the brew was sold in Hong Kong for over £800,000 in May.
One Gone in an Earthquake
Of the 24 bottles that were created all are accounted for except for one which is believed to have been destroyed in a Japanese earthquake in 2011. The brew has been described as ‘the holy grail of whisky’ and by jings you’d need a few bob to contemplate bidding for it. The frenzy of collectors is such that the Edinburgh auction house is expecting a monster price for the rare nectar. Although I suspect it is seen as an investment rather than a dram to savour.
