New Jokes for Old –

Holiday Returns and Rainy Days

I don’t like the new pound coin, but then again I never could stand change. That’s an old Edinburgh Fringe joke and this year’s new one is about the Job Centre. So what time of year is it, it’s the ‘Silly Season’ when everyone has gone on holiday and all that’s left is reheated jokes and if you’ve just returned from warmer climate you’ve got peeling skin and a depleted bank balance? But all is not lost there are good stories out there that put a smile or if the weather’s bad a grimace on your lips.  Yes if you chose a staycation this last couple of weeks you’ll have joined me in the rain. I had the family here and first we queued in the rain for indoor play and the then we queued in the rain for Hotel Transylvania. It was the noisiest outing to the cinema since the Saturday morning kids’ film club I used to go to when I was small, that was like a day out with the Apaches.

Sun Screen

When we bought our house by the sea some optimistic soul had previously rented it out as a vacation home and we found the guest book that some had signed after what must have seemed like aeons in the rain. I remember one entry said something like’ we love your house and we love the area, but we haven’t seen much of it because it rained everyday for the two weeks we were here!’ Oh dreary me! That kind of broke your heart, because if you only get a short holiday once a year it’s easy to get the wrong weather. And if you’ve been abroad it may well be the polar opposite with days too hot and stuck inside with a fair skin and unable to venture forth without the application of sun block to all exposed surfaces, some beach holiday that! My own wife is so fair that the skin doctor said she should wear sun screen every time she goes out after May 1st until October, jings that’s harsh.

Holiday Road Home

But if you want good news now that you are back from your holiday then look no further than James Pirie where we’ve set our hearts on being the antidote to  holiday miseries of one sort or another. Yesterday I even listened to Buddy Holiday’s Holiday Road from National Lampoon’s Vacation. That’s how bright and optimistic I am. We’ve got fantastic products at keen prices and are majoring, as they say in the USA, on service and presentation. And for the moment whatever you want we want you to “Say It with Flowers.” Yes we do. They’ve put together the most marvellous selection that has it all in the language of flowers. And if the holiday has flown and nothing till next year is on the cards well home is wonderful after all.  Welcome back.
