Gulliver Travels and We Reduce Prices

Now regular readers of this blog will know I live beside the sea and conduct a friendly war against seagulls which can make life difficult, or if not difficult at least messy. As you can see from the picture above there is a pair on our roof-light. The missus has just spent £99 on a seagull audio deterrent, but it comes with a warning that they are monstrously clever and very adaptive. I think we know that, as we have a gull we call “Stumpy,” because she’s only got one foot, and who is trying to nest on our flat roof. But sometimes you just have to admire the resilience of the birds. Take one seagull that was rescued from a bin in Paisley.  The poor beastie was tiny and bedraggled when it was found, weighing less than half of what it should have done at 1 1/2 pounds or just over half a kilo. The rescue centre in Alloa, a part of the Scottish SPCA, was able to help heal the winged creature and return it to full health.  Last year the Scottish SPCA rescued and released 2,562 animals back into the wild. They called the bird Gulliver it seems, but I’m not sure why it was small not huge, but now it’s apt because Gulliver has been on his travels.

The bird was ringed in Alloa and subsequently spotted on a beach in Agadir in Morrocco some 1,775miles away  just 200 hundred days after the nature centre had released him.  Gulliver is a lesser black-backed gull and they typically breed in the UK in the summer and then migrate to Portugal, Spain, and North Africa for the winter. They’ve got it made!

But lesser black-backed gulls are not the only ones who have got it made, so have our lovely customers with our special spring offers!
