Gifty McGifty: Just Follow the Star
T’is the season to be jolly so it seems but that’s not a reason to go crackers about your spending and to know that there’s still plenty of time to take your time, but not too much though, and choose a gift worthy of the occasion. And all from the comfort of your home, office or the man shed at the bottom of the garden. But it’s not so cosy everywhere else as strong winds have battered the nation this last weekend causing a whole raft of cancellations of seasonal events. The capital was particularly badly affected with driving rain and 55 mph winds battering all and sundry and leaving shoppers cowering in doorways when they could have been at home browsing James Pirie’s offering with a cup of coffee.
The citizens of Edinburgh saw a number of festival themed events cancelled because of the terrible weather and it’s a litany of disasters. The Edinburgh's Castle of Light event has gone by the wayside. It’s where images are projected onto the side of the castle highlighting its storied history. It was stopped after safety concerns were raised and many a heart saddened by the news. These events can be a great deal of fun. Me and the missus were in France a few years ago in Chartres and were surprised when a similar light show was projected onto the side of Chartres Cathedral. The castle event will be held on other days as planned. The swooping Star Flyer ride at the Christmas Markets in the heart of the city also closed and meanwhile the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh also cancelled their event and the garden was closed. Not the greatest start to the Xmas fun.
But we here at James Pirie are mighty glad to help you get the biggest bang for your buck and the loveliest present for those important people in your life. All you have to do is follow the Star. You’ll have noted that we’ve adapted the star symbol to a Christmas Gift Star just to help you focus amid the sea of great offers.
