Cat Got Your Till? Mo rides Again and Other Heart Warming Things.
Are you allergic to cats, or allergic to the people who complain about cats? These days the missus just thinks of animals as a tie, stopping us travelling, but we all need animals in our lives I think and that seems to be the case with Mo the cat , a popular female in Newtongrange, Midlothian, who was recently banned from a local supermarket after a complaint. It’s somewhere I know well as I used to work in Dalkeith. Are you someone like me who goes out of their way to stroke dogs and pet cats if they seem friendly, or do you scowl at the filthy beasties, ridden with germs and allergenic hair?
Well Mo may be all of the above, but she’s also incredibly popular with the customers at the supermarket where she lords it over everyone and beams her benign presence over one and all, as long as there are no dogs in the shop. A single complaint to the supermarket’s head quarters led to Mo’s expulsion from her shopping paradise, but a petition was smartly launched to reinstate her to her rightful place near the till. The outrage over the exile was such that the many thousands of signatories to the petition came from as far away as the USA, you’d have thought they had enough on their hands over there, but no they were equally outraged as the denizens of Newtongrange, Midlothian.
But where there’s a petition and reputational damage there’s a way and the furore caused by the cat reached such a pitch that the supermarket has relaxed the rules and the friendly puss has been allowed once again to meet and greet the customers without the constant shooing out she was getting form the unhappy staff, who are now very pleased to have Mo back on the scene.
