The Sweet Scent of Success – For the Woman in Your Life
The Sweet Scent of Success – For the Woman in Your Life
It’s a Modern Invention
Did you know that perfume is a fairly modern invention and has only been around since the late nineteenth century? Before that only simple scents like lavender water or rose water were available. A century or so earlier some kindly soul had invented Eau de Cologne which was designed to disguise the smell of unwashed bodies at a time when personal hygiene was none existent and people seldom washed. Indeed they often used Eau de Cologne as mouthwash and no differences were made between male and female fragrances.
John Ruskin- No Thanks!
The ability to cut into and shape crystal after it was formed was also a nineteenth century invention, when exquisite designs and shapes became possible. But it wasn’t universally popular – the English art critic John Ruskin called machine cut glass “barbaric,” but we will discount his lonely opinion on the grounds that he left the marriage bedroom on his honeymoon screaming and leaving the lovely Scottish lass Effie Gray disappointed forever. The man was obviously a scoundrel!
No Effie Disappointment
If you don’t want to leave the woman in your life disappointed forever and you recognise the importance of fragrance, now we’ve all discovered the joys of cleanliness and personal hygiene then try a little something special – either as a Mother’s day present or something nice for that special lady. We have a new range of atomisers and even Ruskin couldn’t call them “barbaric” as they are hand cut and we believe amongst the most beautiful on the market. The price is pretty good too with this little lot on at a special discount of, whisper it quietly, half price.
