A One or Two Jumper Summer?

Last year  in July when me and the missus went to see the unlikely double header Barbenheimer, Barbie and Oppenheime, the film theatres  were  full of wet, steaming people as the weather was appalling. We had horizontal rain for days. We went to one barbeque conducted entirely inside with gazebo islands in the garden lashed by rain. If you got stuck in one of those islands you had to get soaked every time you wanted a drink or food, but there wasn’t room inside for the 80 odd people. It was a calamity! Now this year we had our warmest May on record where the Met Office said that the mean temperature Scotland was 12.3C beating 2018’s previous record by 1.6C. Not sure I noticed that as we still had the log burner going of an evening.

Then for eight consecutive days we had snow on our hills in June, when the temperature dipped below the seasonal norm. It was also awfully wet with a third more rain than normal. Farmers couldn’t get their sheep sheared as there were no dry days for the sheep fleeces to dry off, which meant the sheep were more prone to disease and sickness. And the grass the sheep eat was poorly as well.  Arable farmers have been no better off with wet weather wreaking havoc on their crops with some reporting crops 20% below the norm, with all its impact on the prices in the shops.

And the reason for all of this is the Jet Stream which has a warm side and a cold side and Scotland has mostly been under the cold side under Polar maritime air, bringing wet chilly air, nearly all the time. So for the moment it’s a tops on summer and you can put away the sun screen at least for the moment.

And with the jumper firmly on I can point you to the James Pirie Summer sale, no irony intended, where we have bundled together a great mass of goodies to cheer up the cold and the wet?
