A Lucky Dog and an Apology in a Pint Glass

Don’t know if you’ve been watching the new detective thriller  Department Q on Netflix which  is set in Scotland and features the world’s most unpopular copper Carl Morck. He is  English, and a Detective Inspector in the capital’s police.  It’s a pretty gripping and based on a Danish series.  Morck has Akram a sidekick from Syria, where’s he’s been involved in various nefarious goings on in, who loves living in Scotland. And in one episode Akram gets chided by the English detective for touching the nose of Greyfriars Bobby for luck. He’s told the statue of the dog has three noses so far as tourist and locals have continually rubbed the nose making it necessary to replace the snozz . But what you can say is that the continual rubbing of the nose has polished it and reveals the shiny bronze beneath. Oh, and I can thoroughly recommend the series for a gripping finale.

As many will know the story of Greyfriars Bobby is a story of love and devotion. The tiny dog, was either a Skye Terrier or a Dandie Dimont terrier, and his devotion to his master was such that he stayed by the owner’s grave for some 14 years after his death. A rich member of the Coutts banking family Angela Burdett-Coutts funded the statue after hearing the tale of Greyfriars Bobby.  And you  too can pop and see Bobby, Edinburgh’s smallest listed edifice, the statue is on the corner of Candlemaker Row and George IV Bridge.

I had left it late, as usual, but to my utter surprise and delight it arrived 9 o'clock the following morning. Packaged beautifully and making the ideal gift for a 21st birthday. The Tankard is beautiful and my pint one was such a good design, I was thrilled, as it's not always possible to tell from the internet.
