We Do the Donkey Work for You for Father's Day
Did you know that yesterday was Mother’s Day in France, I had no idea until I heard it on the commentary on the French Open Tennis? I would normally be fretting my way through Sir Andy Murray’s matches, but he decided not to play on the clay again this year and I’m hoping he’ll play at Eastbourne, which is a trek, but I know I can still get tickets for that. But old habits die hard and so I was catching up on the tennis and found the information out. And of course this month in these Isles it’s Father’s Day, June 18th to be precise, and so thoughts here at James Pirie fall to finding the best gifts for the men in your life.
However, tennis always makes me easily distracted, especially if Sir Andy is losing and I was captivated by a happy story about a miniature donkey. Those who read this blog regularly will know that we went walking with donkeys last October near Carcassonne, yes that is a thing, and a whale of a time. So we have a soft spot for the lovely creatures. And just this last week a three-month old miniature donkey that was stolen from Astra its mother, but is happily now returned. I don’t want to create any anxiety for the readers, so I’d rather make and ass of myself and cut straight to the happy ending.
Moon is a tiny donkey, only 18 inches tall at the shoulder and while she was still nursing from her mum she was snatched away from Miller’s Ark Farm. She was found some 40 miles away and not too worse for wear after the experience. There was even a £10,000 smackers reward for the lovely beast, such was the cause for concern amongst the public.
The police received countless calls about sightings of Moon and in the jargon they went on to develop lines of inquiry, but not sure that helps! But a tip-off gave them the address and they found the sprightly youngster, none the worse for the kidnapping. Mm that’s goats, so should I say donkeynapping? The only downside was Moon’s mum no longer had any milk for her baby, but the farm staff has worked around the problem, and while the mum was huffy with Moon for a bit they are now back as firm friends, a proper mother and daughter.
Now we don’t want to talk in stereotypes, but dad’s everywhere are known on occasion to be partial to a pint, so here’s our London Crystal Large Tankard on at half price just for Father’s Day. It comes in a stylish presentation box and it is five star reviewed. Well you can’t say fairer than that. And there’s a whole selection of great ideas in the link.
