Turtle Drifts to Shore- But You Don’t Have to Shell Out So Much
You are probably with me on your relationship with turtles, if they aren’t called Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michalangelo I don’t know a lot about them, but I am fairly sure that real sea going turtles do not eat pizza. But they can get lost and not in sewers and wind up on the shores of the nation, which has just happened. A walker on the Solway Coast near Southerness was minding her own business when she found a loggerhead turtle on the beach hundreds and hundreds of miles from where it was trying to go on its migration route.
The hiker called the SSPCA and followed their instructions to wrap up the reptile in a sea water soaked towel while they drove furiously to the scene. These beasties are most commonly found in the warmer seas of the Mediterranean where they can grow to 6ft across and weigh in at half a metric tonne. When they get to cooler waters like those found off the Scottish coast it can put them into a near state of hibernation and they drift. This not so Ninja Turtle will need a year in rehabilitation before it can be released into the wild and it is the second such creature to be washed up on our shores in a week.
But don’t follow that turtle and allow yourself to drift towards Christmas, settle down and take a look at the wonderful range of gift ideas that will tickle any palate and bring the receiver out of their shell and into a warming festive cheer.
