Beauty and the Brutalist Beast
Are you a fan of gripping Police drama? If you are then you might have missed the hit of the Summer Department Q which I have written about before and which is returning for a new series in 2026. The cop drama is set in Argyle House one of the ugliest buildings in Edinburgh and many reckon it’s a blight on the landscape situated as it is in the shadow of the capital’s castle. The ‘monstrous carbuncle,’ to use King Charles’s expression is a brutalist heavyweight built at the end of the 1960s and it is showing its age. But now just as they are planning the new police series plans are afoot, or maybe even ayard to knock it down and replace it with all that is trendy, shiny and new in 2033 when all the building’s leases will run out. It seems like a millennia away, but in reality it is only 7 years and as we know that’s gone in the blink of an eye.
Naturally despite the brutalist nature of the building, the origin of the term is from the French béton brut or raw concrete, there are those who are fans and think the project is fanciful in the light of the climate change situation and they may have a point. They even call it “distinguished,” nobody has yet called it pretty.
And something else that is distinguished is the James Pirie range of wonderful giftware which will brighten any Christmas and which we are sure represents great good taste and excellent value. And much of it is pretty and these two beauties are under fifty smackers.
And to prove that assertion firstly I can point you in the direction of the delightful Bee & Honeysuckle Small Barrel Crystal Vase by Royal Scot Crystal. It comes with a less than half price offer at 55% OFF. It is in a smart giftware box and with free gift wrapping when you tick the box at check out.
Or also in the Bee & Honeysuckle range there is the Small Crystal Bowl likewise from Royal Scot Crystal with the same hefty discount and similar gift boxing. And don’t forget free gift wrapping when you tick the box at check out.
