The Sheep with a Soggy Bottom and 133 Years of Expertise

How long could you live alone at the bottom of a Scottish cliff without going completely baah mi? Two years perhaps? That’s what’s happened to a ewe which has been stranded, literally on the strand below a cliff in Scotland’s north east. She was first spotted two years ago and now she’s known as the nation’s loneliest sheep. A canoeist,  not unlike like myself, was paddling along the coast of Sutherland two years ago and she spotted the beast on a beach at the foot of the cliff, so it was a stunning surprise to return recently and find the poor lamb, well sheep, still stuck in the same place near the Cromarty  Firth.

The ewe practically turned cartwheels when she sighted the tiny craft, but the canoe had no way to carry a frisky and excited sheep to safety, covered as it was from head to toe in a waterlogged fleece. So the despondent creature had to be left all alone. Naturally the canoeist has tried to get the sheep rescued, but Mountain Rescue, police, fire service and the SSPCA all sort of shrugged their shoulders and said not much could be done. The animal protection people said that the sheep wasn’t in danger and had enough grazing and that they knew all about it and really weren’t ready just yet to do anything about it, despite Storm Babet giving the country a pounding these last weeks.

Well that’s a sorry, soggy tale indeed, and with the autumn now fully upon us with the closeness of all things Halloween, followed inevitably by Thanksgiving, Black Friday and the Yuletide. It’s been 133 Christmases that James Pirie has seen since we started life way back in 1890, so we have a little expertise to throw at these occasions. As we stretch across our third century please take a gander at the Kintyre Whisky Tumbler with its beautifully engraved Highland stag. This is part of our wildlife collection and it’s expertly engraved on our beautiful hand cut crystal tumbler.  And because the season of goodwill to all men and women draws near we’ve got this one on at half price for the moment. It’s in a lovely gift box and it’s a rare treat. You can have it gift wrapped for free too.
