The Commonwealth Games Beckon - And We get on with Summer Reductions
Many is the time I’ve talked about the visionary TV series Outlander which starred great Scot Sam Heughan in a history bending time travel show about the Highlands. The series has sparked huge tourist interest in the nation and the economy has benefited greatly from the series. Sam has ventured into whisky production and now the nation’s favourite son is trying his hand at being a DJ. The Glasgow Games starts on the 23rd July and actor Sam will be on the decks at the first of the medal ceremonies the day after.
The Commonwealth Games is known as the “friendly games” and it was last in the nation’s second city in 2012 when it was an outstanding success. However, this time around they won’t be fully covered on the BBC, but will be shown on the streamer HBO Max. Luckily we have this subscription as part of a greater package. So we’ll be cheering on the nation when the fun starts.
Heughan is an ambassador for the games and he will become the official DJ for the duration. As an actor he’s never done this before and so he popped off to a Glasgow rooftop to learn the art from DJ legend Scotland’s George Bowie. The Games will finish with a set from rockers Simple Minds with the final set played Highland folk and electronic band Elephant Sessions with Scottish singer Shereen Cutkelvin marking the ceremonial flag handover.
