Swan Causes Chaos - James Pirie Unaffected
In another lifetime I was in the film and video business and we had a hit programme about cameras in Police cars and the loony behaviour of some motorists, all done by my pal Bill. We had things like “The Plonker with a Plank,” which featured a moped rider carrying a long piece of wood sideways on the roads, so essentially the plank filled the road. But even the plonker didn’t stop the motorway as one swan did on the M20 where the bird was impossible to persuade off the carriageway and motorists were held up for some considerable time as police closed the road. And just to prove that history repeats itself a stroppy swan has led to closures on ScotRail.
A swan on the tracks at Glasgow Central has brought the major terminus to a crashing halt with some 30 trains cancelled or delayed as the obstreperous bird refused to budge, probably knowing they are a protected species. As a result some hundreds of passengers were stranded with Transpennine Express services and Avanti West Coast trains also affected. The swan was finally moved and said to be unharmed but distressed and recovering well.
