Scottish Touring Exhibition
Are You a Culture Vulture?
A touring exhibition from the V&A Dundee museum is set to bring culture to the whole of Scotland. Design in Motion, a custom-built gallery on a bus, has visited the Scottish Parliament. It aims to provide a "snapshot of the creative riches" that the new museum will offer when it opens in 2018.
The exhibition began its 17-week journey around the country in February 27 and is going to more than 70 venues.
New V&A in Dundee Soon
Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop stepped on board to see the exhibits when it called in at the Scottish Parliament. “The Design in Motion tour, which is visiting venues the length and breadth of Scotland, gives people all across Scotland, from all backgrounds, a great chance to get involved and get a sense of the exciting content which the V&A Dundee will deliver,” said MSP Hyslop.
The exhibition features seven designers including a fashion designer Holly Fulton, a game designer’s work and artist Geoffrey Mann.
On the Buses
The new museum, designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, is the subject of some controversy, with spending over-runs already forecast just some few months into construction.
At the moment 9,000 people have seen the exhibition and it is anticipated that many more will visit the exhibition before its final stop of the tour at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London later this month.
An Everyday Classic Design
But if you want to celebrate design and culture in your own home then try a slice of the past with our very fine William Morris range. Morris was the man who helped create the arts and crafts revolution and put good design on everybody’s walls and kitchen table.
Royal Worcester’s Morris and Co Fine Bone China Mug Strawberry Thief is supplied in a lovely matching round gift box with a lid.
The original fabric was designed by Morris and registered in 1883. Strawberry Thief was the first indigo discharge print on cotton. Although very expensive to produce at the time, it became one of the most popular designs for fabric. We are proud to offer this design reproduced by Royal Worcester on Fine Bone China Mugs in the original colour ways. It’s on special offer too. Buy two.
