Coals to Newcastle Wrapped In Tartan

Granite City Imports Granite!

Developers are shocking the good burghers of Aberdeen by importing cheaper Chinese rock into the Granite City. Aberdeen as all know isn’t paved in gold, but it is in granite, that hard working symbol of the city; which is home to much of Scotland’s oil industry.

A Cultural Catastrophe?

The new scheme will sit opposite one of the most iconic granite buildings of the city Marischal College. To say it has caused a bit of a bother may be understating it a great deal. One campaigner against it called it ‘sacrilege.’ Others dubbed it ‘a cultural catastrophe.’ Either way it hasn’t gone down well.

Reasons of Price Say Developers

The local quarry for granite within the city bounds was closed in 1971, but other quarries are to be found in Aberdeenshire itself. So campaigners are up in arms to have it all sourced locally. Evidently the reason for the choice is price. Ah, how well we know that one here at James Pirie.
