Booze Cruise

Take A Dram Instead

If you ever watch ITV then you will be aware of River Cruises and be worried that you may enter their demographic sometime and start to feel warm and cuddly at the thought of a cruise up the Rhine or down the Danube. Ooh No!

The wife and I often joke about whether we are old enough to be worried yet. So far we are okay, but ageing everyday of course.

But then there I was watching the news about the silly young woman who was rescued in a pair of shorts and equipped only with a ‘selfie’ stick on top of Ben Nevis in the middle of a blizzard when my mind started to drift towards a warm weather cruise, so I let my fingers do the walking while carefully avoiding the river cruise.

Fingers Did the Walking

I searched for a bit of a break. Of Course I’d like to leave from Scotland. Well an hour later I am sure it is the last thing I want to do. I can have a go on the Europe Celebrity Silhouette for 9 nights on a bespoke package and travel to Oslo; Skagen, Denmark; Helsingborg, Sweden; Copenhagen; Fredericia, Denmark and return by air from Amsterdam. But I have to get me and the missus to Southampton first. Olso is nearer I think!

Oh and for the chance of sailing the ocean blue, well grey in the case of the North Sea it will set us back either £2,200 for a cabin inside, no view – or £2,800 with a view of the sea. Well the air was a darn sight bluer than the North Sea.

It seems my cruise experience includes: Prices based on two sharing a stateroom, prices subject to change and availability, pre-paid gratuities, flight back from Amsterdam, private transfers. Now I don’t know what pre-paid gratuities are, but I think it is something I approve of. Why not call it service charge?

Nooo!

Well spending the price of a second hand car on a trip on the briny has palled and i have resolved that I can warm the cockles of my heart with a fine single malt drunk out of a lovely crystal tumbler.  I got given a couple of cracking bottles for Christmas and am going to indulge myself. Luckily my wife loves a dram too, so we can wait till spring gets a bit further north.
