Royal Regiment of Scotland Celebrates First Decade
The capital has just experienced the Royal Regiment of Scotland at its most impressive, when a hundred of the regiment’s finest paraded through the streets of Edinburgh, exercising their privilege of the freedom of the city. The march was to help publicise a new exhibition of the regiment’s history at the National War Museum which is inside Edinburgh Castle itself. The exhibition is called Life Support: Stories from The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
A Proud Tradition
The regiment was formed ten years ago when some of the greatest names in Scottish military history were lost. Names like the Royal Scots and King’s Own Scottish Borderers, but which saved two of the nation’s greatest names, the Black Watch and the Royal Highland Fusilers which are incorporated into the regiment as battalions.
The parade was led by the regimental mascot, a Shetland pony Cruachan IV and the band and pipes of the regiment. It was a sight to gladden hearts.
