Dr Who Gets His Just Desserts
Only the other day I was thinking about Beattie, alias Maureen Lipman and her character for those BT adverts, especially the one which goes “You’ve Got an Ology!” Her disappointing grandson has failed most of his GCSEs and she’s baked him a cake, but she is trying to find some light in the tunnel, he has woodwork and an “Ology” so Beattie happily goes back to the celebration cake. You can still see the magic of those ads on youtube.
Time Travelling
But this week we are up to date, without the travelling back in time with Beattie, because David Tennant has propelled himself back to pick up an honorary degree from his old school of acting, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in a ceremony in Glasgow.
Well Done
David studied at the Royal Conservatoire between 1988 and 1991when it was known as the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Since then it has been a dizzying selection of roles. Along the road away Stephen Moffat the Dr Who writer also received an honorary degree from the University of the West of Scotland in Paisley. Well done to both, they did better than an “Ology.”
Who Do You Know?
Do you know someone who has just distinguished themselves, passed GCSEs, A Levels or a degree, or just played a blinder when you were not expecting it? Then we have some lovely reminders of their achievements that will live forever in the memory and a long time on the desk. So celebrate a graduation or academic success with a beautiful gift from this selection of gifts Beattie would approve of.
