Scots Go Green –
Nation is Leading Dash to Reduce Greenhouse Gases
The good news for Scots is that the country is leading the way in greenhouse emissions. Far ahead of the rest of the UK and most of Europe. Wind farms have helped Scotland cut greenhouse gas emissions to nearly half what they were in 1990. This is a staggering achievement. The most equivalent country to Scotland is oil rich Norway and they have gone backwards in comparison. Scotland has achieved the second-highest reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in Western Europe, using the whole spectrum of renewables. Of EU-15 countries, only Sweden has delivered higher cuts.
Ahead of Targets
New data shows Scotland has exceeded its own targets six years early. That new data shows that source emissions have fallen by nearly 40 per cent from 1990 to 2014 north of the border. The rest of the UK lags some 7 per cent behind. Scotland is among a small number of countries worldwide beating their global targets for greenhouse gas emissions.
