You’re Bard –

Great Poet Gets Greater Recognition with a Whopper Grant

The workof the Scottish Bard has received a great boost. The Robert Burns project

has won the funding to complete Burns’ works.  The grant, from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, enables five years of study on this great Scot. Born in Alloway in South Ayrshire in 1759 Burns is Scotland’s national writer. He grew up in poverty with little regular schooling and he was largely educated by William his father. This massive addition to Burns study turns a fresh page on our national hero and secures his place in history.

Elevating the Bard

It is expected that the study will elevate Burns the Romantic poet to the international level of say a Keats and make our national treasure an acclaimed genius throughout the world. As well as all the letters and poetry there will be a handbook to the Bard. This will be both the most scholarly and the most accessible foray into Burns, his art and life to date.
