Duke of Rothesay Backs New Restaurant for Ballater –

New Beginnings for ‘Drowned Village’

Prince Charles who is always known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland has opened his very own restaurant to bring  back the money and the tourists the flood affected village of Ballater on the banks of the River Dee. It was an idea from a local butcher  who suggested a Highgrove shop and the Duke was eager to help.

Storm Frank Leads to Rothesay Rooms

A year ago more than 300 homes and 60 businesses in the village were badly affected by flooding during Storm Frank when the Dee overflowed. Now the new restaurant  titled the Rothesay Rooms and an adjoining Highgrove Shop mark a new beginning for the village. The decor is contemporary Highland in the Rothesay tartan. The locals are well pleased by the royal efforts. The Prince started the Ballater Flood Appeal, which has raised £160,000 since its launch in January this year. Scotland’s Dumfries House Trust  which is Prince Charles’s charity has overseen the development of the Rothesay Rooms which helps to replaced a previous restaurant which burned down last year. .

Antlers Everywhere

The restaurant has the feel of a Highlands private members’ club with dark green wood-panelled walls of deer antlers and animal paintings. Well we should tell them about the lovely Spode plates and mugs. Absolutely stunning stuff, join the in crowd with these fabulous pieces.
