Autumn Blues –
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Now I was going to the post office when I saw a little bump just outside the local tip, or should I say recycling centre? The rain was beating down and the young woman in the offending car was mortified to be in the wrong. The prospect of paper work and rocketing insurance costs no doubt made her feel like this, but this rotten weather was to blame and it is a month that is often just pure misery. Why recently a car crashed into the side of house in Helensburgh having skidded through a roundabout to become embedded in this nice looking detached house. Police rushed to the scene after reports the car had ploughed into the cottage at the Cross Keys Roundabout in the early hours. And if you’d asked me the make of the offending car I think I would have replied BMW and yes it was one. It was a Grey BMW X5 and it went in through the front windows like a very a ram raider. It took out the dry stone garden wall on the way through too so I am speculating that it was going at quite a lick on this ungritted road from Loch Lomond to Helensburgh. Luckily the cottage was empty at the time.
Your Writer Was an Accidental Ram-Raider
It reminds me of a day when there was a train strike and when I found out the missus thought I should stay at home, but I said I should struggle to work and we had words, serious words. So I set off in my lovely Audi but forgot my paperwork and briefcase so had to head back. Coming back through the town I got ‘T-boned’ at a junction, then my foot got trapped on the accelerator and I ram raided the local pub ending up in its lounge bar. Bang that was the Audi gone, replaced by a 4 gear Vauxhall and not a nice one. I never heard much from the pub as they declared bankruptcy the following day, but it all goes to show that less haste more speed goes just as much in the world of car driving. They put in traffic lights after that at the junction, thank goodness and pub reopened.
