Spring Has Sprung the Sap Has Ris –

I Wonder Where the Birdies Is? (Ogden Nash)

Well it is definitely batten down the hatches time here on the coast, the momentary warm weather we had is long gone and maybe that was the summer that never was. You never know these days. I’ve already driven around fallen trees in the road and spent the morning moving my shrubs in planters upright. These are heavy, heavy ones too. Currently I’m been dazzled by bright sunshine and the house whipped by westerly gales. What is that they say about March, “In like a lion and out like a lamb,” jings we’ve got the lion that’s for sure. Yesterday was not quite so windy and I was able to spend some time down on the local bird and wildlife reserve which was helped by a handy guy with a telescope, because quite frankly I am rubbish at all this bird spotting and with so many gulls I get easily confused, while the missus gets bored.  But it is March and year is spinning on quite quickly now so if you are like me you’ll have heaps to do in the garden and if also like me be wondering if there is any way to avoid so much weeding, it is never ending!

Every Man and His Dog

But one thing I did see yesterday when I popped into the local town was everyone and his dog had a ‘Mother’s Day Special’ on the go. And it isn’t that far away, March 31st to be precise so we’ll all have to get our skates on for the women in our life. It is a bit like St Valentine’s Day- almost compulsory now. But I saw a High Tea offer that looked good for any day. I am partial to a fruit scone, cream and jam.

 In a Jam Today?

But if you aren’t partial to difficult choices then we here at James Pirie have made Mother’s Day present buying a piece of cake, sorry no jam included. There is a whole section devoted to the celebration, both the UK one and the American one in June. You can find something unique in our collection of Royal Crown Derby, Wrendale, Royal Worcester, Caithness paperweights, Copper, Just Slate or Portmeirion.  All good stuff! For an idea look at the five star rated Caithness Glass - Mini Heart Bowl Gold, it is inspired by Love and these beautiful mini heart shaped bowls make a special gift and are just perfect for a dressing table. The Caithness Glass paperweight is Designed by Sarah Peterson and handmade in Scotland. It has a few bob off too!
