Lost Seals and January Dreaming –

Get a House or a Shopping Mall for a Quid?

I was going to blog about a rare black seal pup, but something else caught my attention. It was a whole shopping centre to be auctioned at bids starting from a quid. But before we get into that, there was, found dehydrated on a beach in the Borders, a female black seal pup who is now doing fine according to the SPCA. It was found by dog walkers and those stout folk at the animal centre swooped and rescued it, named it Narcissa, and then said it would shortly be released back into the wild. A nice cheerful story! However, the eye catching  nature of the offer  was too interesting to ignore. You see I’d just read of lots of houses for sale in Sicily for a Euro, yes a single Euro;and then I saw the shopping centre in Kirkcaldy up for auction in February for a quid. Although I suspect the houses in Sambuca, a hilltop town with stunning views across the Mediterranean island, will be better value for money. As far as I remember Kirkcaldy doesn’t have stunning views, but does have a lot of empty stores.

Expensive Bargains

If you want to buy yourself a slice of Sicily for a Euro then you’d need a reasonable budget to renovate your house inside three years and if you wanted to buy the shopping centre for a pound then I suspect you might need even deeper pockets. The mall is the Postings centre in Kirkcaldy, Fife is made up of 21 stores, of which 13 are empty, and a 299-space car park. It generates £152,005 of income a year. They don’t tell you what the costs are. The reserve price has been set at just £1 and is said to attracting considerable interest. Well yes I am writing about it for our readers here! It is thought any new buyer may view the purchase as an opportunity to demolish and redevelop the site. Sounds like an expensive bargain to me.
